Sheldon Abend, a
long time Putnam Valley resident, died Sunday August 24, 2003 at Mount Sinai Hospital.
He was 74. He is survived by his son Steven of New Jersey, and his grandson. His
may friends including his trusted friend Renee Stewart also survive. He contributed
greatly to the Putnam Valley community. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 7-9
PM and on Wednesday from 10 AM to 1 PM at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME Morrissey Drive,

Joseph Arrien,
Sr. died suddenly on Wednesday January 8, 2003 He was the beloved husband of the
late Mary Arrien whi died in 1999. He was the cherished father of Mary Ann Arrien
of Putnam Valley and Joseph of Florida. The family will receive friends on Friday
from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Heritage Fuenral Home, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley.

Benton, Leonard.
Leonard Benton
died Tuesday June 9, 2003 at Putnam Hospital. He was 59. Leonard was born in North
Tarrytown on April 3, 1944. He was a member of Teamsters Local 282 and Local 456,
and he resided in the Lake Peekskill section of Putnam Valley. Leonard was skilled
in the restoration of toy fire trucks and toy construction vehicles. Some of his
restored trucks have been on display in the Sleepy Hollow Post Office. Leonard was
the beloved son of the late Mary Boriss and stepson of John Boriss. He was the cherished
brother of Darlene Baird, Joanne Galagher and Jeffrey Boriss. Leonard was the loving
uncle to 4 nephews and 1 niece. The family will receive friends on Thursday from
2-4 and 7-9 PM at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10 AM at the Church of the North

died Sunday August 17, 2003. She was 83. She was the loving mother of Joseph and
Dora Coppa, and the cherished grandmother of Jeanne Marie and Joshua Coppa. Visiting

Joseph DeGrazia died Wednesday, December 10th at Westchester Medical Center. He was
53. Michael was born in Bronx, NY on December 16, 1949 to Alfred and Mary (Bellotti)
DeGrazia. He graduated from Evander Childs High School. Michael has been employed
by Con Edison for the past 35 years. Michael is survived by his loving sons, Michael,
Jr., Christian and Nicolas and by his cherished father, Alfred. He will be deeply

Joseph Dusavage
died suddenly on Thursday, January 9, 2003. Joseph had retired from the Putnam Valley
Highway Department and worked part time as a bus driver for the Putnam Valley Central
School District. He was a member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
Joseph was the beloved husband of Patsy Dusavage of Putnam Valley and the cherished
father of Amy Ubben of Cortlandt Manor, Gary Crewell of Castleton, Joseph P. Dusavage
of Wappinger Falls and the late Julie Johnson. Joseph was the devoted grandfather
of 8. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the HERITAGE

years old. He was the beloved husband of Edith Farber of Putnam Valley and the cherished
father of Harry Farber of South Carolina and Pamela Cosenza of Massapequa, NY. Fredric
was the devoted grandfather of Elizabeth, Jimmy, Brooke and Jenna. The family will

Gordon, James
Jim Gordon, a long
time Putnam Valley resident died Sunday, February 16, 2003 at his home. Jim was born
February 15, 1927 in Brooklyn. He served his country in the Unites States Marine
Corps. After attending Syracuse University, Jim embarked on a 50-year career in broadcasting.
Starting in Syracuse, and then moving home to New York City, he reported news and
sports at a half dozen radio stations. Jim reported from the streets during the New
York City riots, and from the subways during the blackout. He broadcast the first
all-news format at WINS, and served as News Director for WNEW. His 30-year association
with Madison Square Garden included radio and television broadcasts for the New York
Knicks and the New York Rangers. Jim was the radio voice of New York Giants football
for 18 years, including two Super Bowl Championships.
Jim's long record of
service to his Putnam Valley community included being a member of the Library and
Zoning Boards. He was an active member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department,
working as Fire Policeman, and serving as the Recording Secretary and a member of
the Department's Board of Directors. Jim was elected to multiple terms as Putnam
Valley's representative to the County Legislature, and he served on the New York
Watershed Commission.
He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Gordon to whom
he had been married for over 53 years. Jim was the cherished father of Laura Hess
of Roslindale, MA, Mary Gordon of Putnam Valley, Jim Gordon of Eureka, CA, Brian
Gordon of Del Ray Beach, FL and Chris Gordon of Clinton Corners, NY. Jim was the
devoted grandfather of Carrie Hess or Roslindale, MA and Lauren Levesque of Putnam
Valley. He was also the loving great-grandfather of Meeghan Stapleton Hess. In addition,
Jim was the loving brother of Noreen Dick of Kinderhook, NY and the late Alexander
and Robert Gordon.
The family will receive friends on Friday February 21,
2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley.

Gunther-Harbin, Marion
Marion Gunther-Harbin,
a long time Lake Peekskill resident, died Friday, July 18, 2003,. She was 86. Marion
was born in Germany on November 12, 1916. She survived the Holocaust, and moved to
the USA in 1934. She lived in NYC and in 1940, married Walter Gunther. In 1950, they
moved to Lake Peekskill. Walter died in 1970. Marion married Gilbert Harbin, and
he also predeceased her. Marion worked in Real Estate, and retired in 1985. She volunteered
at Hudson Valley Hospital Center for many years. Marion is survived by her beloved
daughters, Linda Rigoletti of Arizona and Renee Gunther-Fairhall of Lake Peekskill.
Her loving son-in-law, Andrew Fairhall and cherished granddaughter Suzanne David
also survive. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 21, 2003 at 11:30 am at the
HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley and interment will follow at
Rose Hills Cemetery.

Edna Jones of Cortlandt
Manor, died December 2, 2003 at her home. Edna was the beloved wife of Ernest Jones.
She is also survived by her 3 sons and her daughter as well as 12 grandchildren and

Jordan, Robert P.
Robert P. Jordan,
54, of Summit, NY died on June 30, 2003 at Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC. Mr. Jordan
was a long time resident of Putnam Valley before retiring from the Eastchester Fire
Department where he served as a firefighter for 25 years.
Born on September 11,
1948 in Bronxville, NY, he was the son of John and Jean Jordan. He attended Archbishop
Stepinac High School and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. On August 17,
1980, he married his wife, Fran Booth, at the Church of the North American Martyrs
in Putnam Valley.
In addition to his beloved wife Fran, he is survived by a daughter,
Kimberly of Summit, NY. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Edward, James and Timothy
Jordan.

She was 55. Patricia was the beloved wife of John Kinney and the cherished mother
of Joseph Kinney, Cindy Zinser, Lonnie Zinser, Judy Fisher, Debbie Cole and John
Kinney. She was the devoted grandmother of Cheryl Ann, Robert, Cheyanne, Billy, John,

McCarthy, 81, long time resident of Putnam Valley, died on September 6, 2003, at
Hudson Valley Hospital Center.
Born in New York City in 1922 to Edward and
Josephine Walsh, she married Walter McCarthy in 1948, and is survived by their children
Kathleen McCarthy, Helen and Thomas Herlihy, Loretta McCarthy, Edward and Elizabeth
McCarthy, Josephine and Christopher Stern, Daniel McCarthy, Matthew McCarthy, and
Walter McCarthy. She will be missed by her grandchildren Colleen, Eileen and Meagan
Stern, Jack, Sara and Maggie McCarthy. Also surviving are sisters Mary Walsh, Edna
Haberstroh, Martha Metzger and a host of other relatives. She was predeceased by
her husband and by her brothers John, Edward, Tom, Frank and Jim Walsh, and sisters
Ann Conover, Josephine and Isabel Walsh, and Helen Donovan.
Mildred McCarthy
was an active member and long time parishioner of St. Columbanus/North American Martyrs
Church and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She retired from Blue Cross/Blue
Shield in Yorktown Heights in 1993.

Payson, a Lake Peekskill resident, died Friday, September 26, 2003 in Boston, He
was 64. George was born in Camden, Maine on November 22, 1938. He worked as a boiler
repairman, most recently for the Ossining Correctional Facility. George is survived
by his beloved wife, Nancy, his loving sons, Hollis and Troy and his cherished grandchildren,
John, Troy, Christina and Tommy. His three sisters also survive. Visiting hours will

John M. Peppard,
83, died Monday, August 18, 2003 at Treetops Nursing Home in Mohegan Lake. He was
born on August 9, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY to Mary (nee Cooney) and Michael Peppard.
He served in the US Navy from 1941-1945 and worked for American Oil Company for many
years.
Mr. Peppard is survived by his brother, Emmit, daughters Maureen Keating,
Kathleen Peppard, Teresa Peppard, and Eileen Ellis, son Tom Peppard, and 7 grandchildren.

Ray Stephens, Thomas Stephens, Jr., Donald Stephens and June Stephens. She was the
devoted grandmother of 7 and great-grandmother of 8. The family will receive friends

Vinscotski, Ruth
Ruth J. Vinscotski,
a long time Putnam Valley resident, died Tuesday, May 6 at her nephews home in Long
Beach, NY. She was 79. Ruth was born March 7, 1924 in the Bronx. She was the beloved
wife of the late Alex Vinscotski and the cherished mother of Robert Vinscotski, who
was killed in action in the Vietnam War. Ruth lived most of her life in Putnam Valley
and moved to Wappingers Falls 5 years ago. For many years she was the Director of
Food Service for the Lakeland School District in Shrub Oak. Ruth is survived by many
nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her. The family will receive friends on
Friday from 5 to 8 PM at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday at 11 AM at Rose Hills Cemetery, Putnam Valley.
