Alexander, Dorothy J.

Dorothy J. Alexander of Millington Road, Cortlandt Manor, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Westledge Nursing Home. She was 89.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Harold of Gardiner, NY and Richard of Brockport, NY. She is predeceased by her husband, Harold and her sons, Charles and David.

Visiting hours are Monday from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Funeral Services will be
on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home and interment will follow at Rose Hills Cemetery.


Buckley, Thomas R.

Thomas R. Buckley died Monday April 11, 2005 at Hudson Valley Hospital. He was 66. Thomas was the beloved husband of Patricia and the cherished father of Thomas, Elizabeth, James and Bartholomew and the devoted grandfather of Thomas Joseph. He was the loving brother of John, Michael and Paul. He was predeceased by his brother Peter. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Hudson Valley Hospital fund-raiser.


Burstein, Hon. Arthur

Hon. Arthur Burstein has passed away March 30, 2005. He was a beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather and friend. He especially loved the people of Putnam Valley and cherished the many years of public service performed within the community. We will miss his smile and sense of humor. Funeral Services to be held at 11:00AM on Friday, April 1, 2005, at the Heritage Funeral Home, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley and interment will follow at King David Cemetery.


Clark, Nancy

Nancy Clark died at Treetops at Mohegan Lake. She was the beloved husband of Ronald V. Clark, the loving mother of Nadine M. Mahoney, Barbara J. Turco and Kristine Clark and the cherished grandmother of James P. Travis, Paul Turco and Billy Turco.

Visiting hours are Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the North American Marytyrs and interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.


Glenn, Claire

Funeral services for Claire Glenn will be on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columbanus Church, Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor. Intermet will follow at Assumption Cemetery.


Hogan, Frederick J.

Frederick J. Hogan, a Cortlandt Manor resident for 42 years, died January 4, 2005. Fred was born on April 28, 1928 in Bronx, NY to the late Frederick and Anna Hogan. Mr. Hogan served in the US Army from 1952-1954. He retired in 1989 from Continental Can Company after 35 years of service. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Shrub Oak.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia; his son Frederick & daughter-in-law, Angie, his son Timothy & daughter-in-law, Theresa, his daughter Patricia Roth and son-in-law Glenn and his daughter Mary Parry and son-in-law, Robert. He is the cherished grandfather of Frederick, Sabrina, Timothy, Andrew, Matthew, Taylor, Neil and Emily.
Mr. Hogan is also survived by his two sisters, Anita Doyle of California and Starr Walsh of Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Hollis, James Webb

James Webb Hollis of Cortlandt Manor, died Sunday January 23, 2005 at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne. James was the loving father of Ursula Hollis, Susan Hollis Brown and Kim Marie Hollis, the devoted grandfather of Jason, Adam and Brenden Brown and Justin Tyler Blanchard, and great-grandfather of Madison Elizabeth. His brother, Joseph Hollis also survives. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Keating, Philip J.

Philip J. Keating died February 18 at Hudson Valley Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Keating moved to Lake Peekskill when it was a small Summer community. It became his home and his passion. Known for his civic mindedness and community spirit, Mr. Keating was instrumental in the formation of many organizations in Putnam Valley, as well as continued leadership in the town he loved. He was a founding and lifelong member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department, a founding member and past president of the Putnam Valley American Legion, an original member and past president of the Putnam Valley Rotary, a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, a member of the Putnam Valley VFW, Peekskill Elks and the Independent Insurance Agencies of Putnam. He was also elected Putnam Valley Town Assessor for 12 years and Putnam Valley Town Councilman for 14 years. He was an active member of the Putnam Valley Democratic Club and Committee while serving many leadership roles. He also held many volunteer positions. He was a local businessman; he owned Allen-Keating Corp. in Putnam Valley, selling real estate and insurance since 1950.

Mr. Keating served in the US Army Air Force in the Pacific from 1941-1945. He married Agnes "Muriel" Keating on Sept. 30, 1950. They were the first couple married at the North American Martyrs Church where he served as Commentator and Usher for many years.

Mr. Keating is survived by his loving wife, Muriel, his children Philip, William Ross & his wife Sheryl, Nancy Wulfhop & her husband Gary, almost son Arthur and 7 grandchildren. His 3 brother, Joseph, James and Raymond predecease him.

He will always be remembered for his love of Putnam Valley, his willingness to step forward and take a stand, and for not being afraid to volunteer.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the North American Martyrs and interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department or Ambulance Corps.


Levenson, Vivian S.

Vivian S. Levenson passed away on July 3, 2005. She was 74. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert. She was the loving mother of Robin, Michael and his wife Judi. She was the proud and devoted Grandma of Raeanna, Alexander, Parker and Zoee. She is also survived by her sister Laura and husband Donald as well as many nieces and nephews. Vivian was the owner of Westchester Court Service for many years. She was the past president of Temple Israel of Putnam Valley, and a respected volunteer in many organizations. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and Funeral Services will follow at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Interment will follow at King David Cemetery in Putnam Valley. The family requests memorial donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Shiva will be held at the home of Robin Dimichele.


Lewis, Helen

Helen Lewis, a Lake Peekskill resident, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Montifiore Hospital she was 72 She was the devoted mother of Debra Langan and Robert, Kevin, Michael and Christopher Lewis. She was the cherished grandmother of 3 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert and she is survived by her sister, Ann Danback. McCarthy, Michael F.

Michael F. McCarthy died suddenly on Monday, March 21, 2005 at his home. He was 58. A former resident of Putnam Valley, he resided in Elmsford. Michael worked in the construction field all his life and was retired from the Tarmac Corp. where he was an owner/operator. Michael was the proud and loving father to Tara Venezia and her husband William, and the cherished Pop Pop to his grandchildren William and Kelli Venezia. He is also survived by his sisters, Eileen (Bill) Smith of Texas and Cathleen Hardin of California, and his niece and nephew Laura and William Leadbetter. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Leadbetter. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Menona, Vincent A., Sr.

Vincent A. Menona, a former long time resident of Putnam Valley, died at his home in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
He was born on February 9, 1930 to Daniel P. and Anna Menona in Manhattan where he was raised and educated. After serving in the U.S. Army, he joined the New York City Police Department and then transferrd to the Fire Department of New York. He retired from Engine 64 in 1976, and moved to Phoenix in 1978.
Vincent is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor J. Menona (Hart), whom he married in 1953 in Manhattan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Daniel P. Menona and his wife, Diane of Woodbury, CT, Joann Carroll and her husband ,Mike of Putnam Valley, NY, Katie Menona of Phoenix, Vincent Menona and his wife, Lisa of Phoenix and James Menona of Phoenix, AZ.
He is also survived and will be dearly missed by his 5 granddaughters, Denise Carroll of Manhattan, Danielle and Lauren Menona of Phoenix and Shannon and Kimberly Sorg of Phoenix, AZ. He was predeceased by both parents and two sisters, Florence O'Neill and Joan Lux, all former Putnam Valley residents.
Vincent will also be missed by his devoted friends and neighbors, Don and Barbara Sexton as well as his compassionate, devoted caregiver, Francis Sexton, also of Phoenix, AZ.

Minieri, Thomas

Orlando, John

John Orlando, a life long resident of Putnam Valley, died peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2005. He was 80 years old. John was born on November 9, 1924 at the Orlando estate on Kramers Pond Road in Putnam Valley.

John was the former owner of the Orlando Sanitation Corp., a family owned business that was originally started by his late father, Luigi and his mother, Irma. He was also a bus owner/operator for the Putnam Valley Schools for many years.

John is survived by his brother, Herbert Orlando and his sister, Stephanie (Fannie) Longhi. He is also survived by his niece, Lois Orlando-Brazee & Mario; his great-nephew James & his wife Kim and their children James-Michael, Kristi and Bucky; his nephew Philip Orlando, great-nephew John & his wife Theresa and their children Johnny and Amanda; and his nephew Dennis Orlando & his wife Rose and their children Dennis, Jr. & his wife Carol Ann and Tammy and her husband, Danny. John is also survived by Cathleen Lent-Bruno, her husband Louis and their children Charlie and Todd. Ruth Lent and many other nieces and nephews also survive. John was predeceased by his brothers, Rex Orlando and Felix Orlando and his sisters Mary Lamando, Delores Dimichele and Rose Volpe.

John was a long time member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the Peekskill Elks Lodge and the Spruce Hill Rod and Gun Club.

Palmer, Marie F.

Marie F. Palmer of Putnam Valley, died Sunday February 6, 2005. She was 89. Marie was the loving mother of Gary and his wife Susan of Pleasantville and Richard of Beverly Hills, CA and the cherished grandmother of Richard Sonny of New Rochelle. She was the devoted aunt of many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband Albert and her dear brother Frederick Volz. She was a member of the Putnam Valley Senior Citizens Club, an avid Mah Jongg player and a NY Yankee fan.

Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Pedersen, Annelise

Annelise Pedersen, who lived most of her life in Putnam Valley, died on September 12, 2005 at her daughter's residence in Patterson, NY. Annelise was born in the city of Bergen, Norway to Robert and Martha Blindheim on October 1, 1927. She married Art K. Pedersen on November 21, 1946 in Bergen. She immigrated with her family to America in 1953 and settled on Church Road in Putnam Valley. Together with her husband, they operated the Pedersen Press, commercial and job printing, in Putnam Valley for many years. In 1958, they introduced the Putnam Valley Directory (phone directory) to the community - and for 14 years, they also published the weekly newspaper Community Current which they started in 1976. Annelise was the manager, but she was also a good photographer and darkroom technician, and an excellent proofreader.
She is survived by her husband, her three daughters, Siren McAleavy of Newburgh, NY, Torill Drury of Chadds Ford, PA, and Liz Gregory of Patterson, NY, and her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 16, 2005 from 2-4 p.m., and a Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Celia Dill Dialysis Center, 667 Stoneleigh Ave., Carmel, NY 10512 would be appreciated.


Piacente, Julia

Spiegel, Joseph P.

Joseph P. Spiegel, 76, died Tuesday, May 24 at his home. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and retired after 35 years as an employee of NY Telephone. Joseph was the loving father of Paul Spiegel of Carmel, John Spiegel of Wappingers, Lisa Spiegel of Mahopac and Robert Martin of Chicago. He was the cherished grandfather of 6. Stahl, Henry E.

Henry E. Stahl, died Thursday at Treetops at Mohegan Lake. He was 91. Henry was born August 11, 1913. He was the loving father of Raymond Stahl, Geraldine Byron and Edward Stahl, the cherished grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 13. Visiting hour will be on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Funeral Services will be on Monday at 10 a.m. at Rose Hills Cemetery.


Tenesaca, Manuel Jose

Manuel Jose Tenesaca died suddenly on Sunday, July 10, 2005. He was 20 years old. His family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday from 8-11 p.m. and on Sunday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home on Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption on Union Ave, Peekskill. Interment will follow at a later date in Ecuador.


Tolliver, Baby Alexis Marie

Alexis Marie Tolliver died Thursday, December 30, 2004. She was only 1 day old. The daughter of Amy Smith and John Tolliver of Middletown, she was born on December 29, 2004. Her newborn brother, John, Jr., who died on March 12, 2004, predeceased Alexis. He was only 2 hours old.
Survivors include her loving and heartbroken parents Amy Smith and John Tolliver of Middletown, her grandparents Richard and Obdulia Tolliver of Middletown, NY and Pamela Smith and Dominick Picciano of Wurtsboro, NY, her siblings Averi Osborn, Alaysia Tolliver & Jordan Tolliver of Middletown, NY and Taylor Burris of Maryland. Her uncles & aunts, Philip & Yvonne Reynolds of Monticello, NY, Glen Tolliver of TN, Nicole Dalton of OH and Michael & Cathy Perkins of Walker Valley also survive as do her cousins Christian Reynolds of Monticello, Glenn Tolliver, Jr., of OH and Michael & Brandon Perkins of Walker Valley. Visiting Hours will be on Saturday, January 8, 2005 from 10 to 11 a.m. at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Funeral Services will follow at Bloomingburg Cemetery.


Whitehill, William

William H. Whitehill, a former resident of Putnam Valley and Cold Spring, died on Sunday, March 20, 2005 in Leesburg, FL. He was 86.

Mr. Whitehill was born in Cold Spring December 25, 1918 to James and Mae (Schooner) Whitehill. He attended local schools and graduated from Haldane High School in 1936 and Delhi College in 1938.

During WWII, he served as a Sergeant in the tank division of the US Army. He married Alice E Wilcox in 1943. She predeceased him in 1995.

While still a resident of Cold Spring, Mr. Whitehill was proprietor of J.H. Whitehill and Son Contracting Co. He was a former Chief of the Nelsonville Fire Company. For 27 years, the couple lived in Putnam Valley where they owned and operated the Oregon Hardware Store. Mr. Whitehill was Putnam Valley's Building and Zoning Inspector for 20 years. He was a life member of N.Y. State Building Officials, and a past president of the Mid-Hudson chapter.

While a resident of Putnam Valley, Mr. Whitehill was an active community member. He was active in scouting for 15 years, as well as the PV PTA. He was assistant chief and past president of the Putnam Valley Fire Department and a charter member of the Putnam Valley Ambulance Corps.

Upon moving to central Florida in 1979, Mr. Whitehill became an avid golfer and bowler. He married Florence "Flo" Christian (Heckler), a former Cold Spring resident in 1996. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, FL.

Mr. Whitehill is survived by his wife of the Florida address; a son, William H. Whitehill (Cathy) of Ft. Worth, TX, three daughters, Alice M. Kroohs (John) of Mahopac, Susan F. Berger (Chris) of Putnam Valley and Linda K. Dillon (John) of Thomasville, NC; 11 grandchildren, Sandra Laird, Laurie Ann Shoemaker, John Kroohs, Billy, Bobby and Brian Whitehill, Chris, Jennifer and Brett Berger, and Martin and Johnny Dillon; and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held March 22 in Leesburg, FL. Visiting hours will be on Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley, and interment will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery.
