Barthman, Jim

Jim Barthman of Lake Peekskill, died Saturday April 8, 2006 at his home. Jim was a courageous and gentle man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were private.


Bliss, John A.

John A. Bliss of Lake Peekskill died Sunday April 23rd at his home. He was 47. John is survived by his beloved mother, Mary Bliss, his loving brothers, Michael, Paul and Joseph and his devoted sisters, Doreen and Catherine. He was the cherished uncle of Bruce, Jennifer, Caitlin and Kristen. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the North American Martyrs in Putnam Valley and interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.


Bolger, William J.

William J. Bolger, a long time area resident, died Wednesday, September 27 after a brief illness. He was 64. Bill was a retired New York City Firefighter and was a prominent Attorney and partner in the law firm of Bolger, Hinz and Zutt in Putnam Valley. He was a warm and loving father, a loyal friend and will be remembered for his intelligence, his honesty and his wit. Bill is survived by his devoted children, James, Sean, Christopher and Janine Bolger, his adoring grandson Joseph and by his cherished friend and companion, Susan Kundel. He was predeceased in 1999 by his beloved wife Florence Bolger and by his brother Patrick. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak and interment will follow at Rose Hills Cemetery. Bolic, Rozalija

The family of Rozalija "Rose" Bolic will recieve friends on Friday, February 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the North American Martyrs.


Borst, Richard

Richard Borst, of Putnam Valley (Lake Peekskill) died Wednesday, February 9, 2006 at home. Born on Sept. 23, 1957, Richard was the son of the late Robert and Lily Borst of Peekskill. He graduated Walter Panas High School in 1975 and worked at the Hebrew Home for the Aging in the Bronx for many years. He is survived by his brothers, Peter of CT, Jeffrey of Lagrangeville and Thomas of Peekskill. Funeral services are private. Casey, Helen E.

Helen E. Casey (nee Cunningham), a former resident of Ardsley, died on Monday, October 9, 2006 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor. She was 80 years old.
Helen was born to Mary (McCarthy) and William Cunningham on October 31, 1925 in Yonkers, NY. She graduated from Yonkers High School. She went directly to work for Metropolitan Life in NYC.
On May 31, 1947, she married the love of her life, James Casey. James died on March 29, 1990.
Mrs. Casey lived in Ardsley with her husband until 1987. She then moved to Croton-on-Hudson. In 1997, Helen moved into her daughter's home in Cortlandt Manor.
Helen worked as a secretary at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School / Church in Ardsley. She then worked as a bookkeeper at the Cortlandt Press in Dobbs Ferry, NY. In 1974, Mrs. Casey went to work at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry as an Accounts Payable Specialist. She stayed there until her retirement in November 1992.
Helen was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak.
Helen is survived by her 7 children and their spouses: Larry and Celia Casey of Dobbs Ferry, Eileen and Robert Costello of Warwick, NY, Kathleen and John Kelly of Red Hook, NY, Susan and William Garrett of Atlanta, GA, Maureen and Neal Murphy of Olney, MD, James and Carol Casey of Shenorock, NY and Mary and Richard Gansfuss of Cortlandt Manor, NY.
She is also survived by one sister, Sr. Mary Sienna, RSM of Hartsdale, NY, 21 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Jack Cunningham of Yonkers, NY and one sister, Eileen Doherty of Somers, NY.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak and interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Coffey, Andrew J.

Andrew J. Coffey, a long time Putnam Valley resident, died Sunday, July 2, 2006 at his home. He was 67. Andrew is survived by his beloved wife, Doris, his devoted mother, Margaret, his cherished children, Andrew, James, Michael, Patricia, Colleen, Thomas and Kelly, his loving brother, Jeremiah and by 22 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Andrew is predeceased by his father, Andrew Coffey and by his sister, Patricia Coffey. Collins, Patricia

Patricia Collins died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Hudson Valley Hospital after a 12 year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 65. Patricia was the beloved wife of Thomas R. Collins of Putnam Valley, the cherished mother of Thomas K. Collins and his wife, Carol of Yorktown and Susan Prince and her husband Michael of Putnam Valley, and the grandmother of Sean, Trisha and Meghan. Connors, Erika Jean

Erika Jean Connors of Cortlandt Manor passed away on Thursday, November 9 after a long and courageous battle against breast cancer. She was 37. Born November 23, 1968 in Syracuse, Erika was a film and video production professional, with a passion for dance, fashion and music. While fighting the illness, Erika lectured about the struggles of being a young person with cancer in an effort to heighten awareness of the agelessness of the disease. Erika is survived by her loyal boyfriend Leo Alvarez, her parents Andrea and Bruce Connors, her brother and sister-in-law Grant and Jill Connors and by her nephew and godson, Aidan Connors. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at 11 a.m. at the Tompkins Corners Methodist Church, Putnam Valley. Curtin, Peter D.

Peter D. Curtin, a resident of Cortlandt Manor, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at his home. He was 70 years old. Peter was a detective in the New Rochelle Police Department who retired in 1981. He was an avid golfer and had worked at the Hudson Hills Golf Club. Peter is survived by his beloved wife Pamela J. Curtin and his loving sons, Peter and his wife Mary, Paul and his wife Sandra and David and his girlfriend Valerie. Peter's cherished grandchildren Christopher and Kiara and his brothers Charles, Roger and Kenny also survive. Dessner, Alyssa M.

Alyssa M. Dessner, of Cortlandt Manor, was called home on July 30, 2006. Miss Dessner was born in New Rochelle on January 6, 1988, to Hugh R. and Ann Maria Lalli Dessner. She graduated from Walter Panas High School in June 2006. Alyssa is survived by her beloved parents, Hugh and Ann Maria Dessner; her loving brother PFC Michael H. Dessner, USMC; her maternal grandmother, Antoinette J. Lalli, and cherished uncle, William Rea Lalli; by devoted aunts and uncles, Rev. Richard Pagan and Robin (Dessner), Steven and Donna Dessner, Jill Dessner, David and Roxanna Dessner, and Lou Paolucci and Nina (Dessner); and by loving cousins, Joshua and Kristin Pagan, Matthew, Dina and Sara Dessner, Tony, Nathan, Matthew and Meaghan Hiss, and Shayna Paolucci. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Cornelius William (Bill) Lalli and paternal grandparents, Robert and Dorothe Dessner. Alyssa had an exceptional gift for helping friends and family, and her passion for writing and music brought beauty, joy and comfort to all the lives she touched. Her humor and spirit will be remembered and deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Deszaran, Betty

Betty Deszaran, a longtime area resident, died Sunday February 12, 2006 at Field Home-Holy Comforter. She was 95. Betty was a member of the Putnam Valley Senior Citizens for many years. A strong and gracious woman, she lived and loved fully. Betty is survived by her cherished son Michael and his wife Carmela Deszaran, her son-in-law Frank Malnasi, her loving and devoted grandchildren Toni Ann Deszaran, Nina (Stacy) Hansley, Linda (Clyde) McCarter and Elizabeth (Carmine) Scevola and four great-grandchildren:Angela (Maurice) Dattoli, Danielle Scevola, Lauren McCarter and Kevin McCarter. Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Deszaran, her cherished daughter Barbara Malnasi and grandson Frank Malnasi. DiNapoli, Gina

Gina DiNapoli of Putnam Valley died May 5th in New Jersey. She was 72. She was a teacher in the Lakeland School District for many years. Gina is survived by her devoted daughters, Dina Whittaker and Lynne Pareti, her 7 cherished grandchildren and her loving sister, Mary Mastandrea. Furnari, Salvatore

Beloved husband and father, Salvatore Furnari, 84 of Cortlandt Manor, NY passed away on October 15, 2006. He was born December 10, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA to Salvatore and Anna Furnari. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Helen Furnari, his son Richard Furnari and wife Abina, his son Sam Furnari and wife Barbara, his son Thomas Furnari and wife Susan; grandchildren, Elizabeth Finnegan, Dawn Chilson, Adam, Jessica, David, Lori-Ann, Timothy and Thomas Furnari; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Natalie Chilson and Matthew Furnari. Salvatore was preceded in death by his daughter Annette Furnari and grandchildren Anthony and Robin Furnari. Salvatore was a member of Plumbers Local #1 of NYC for forty years. Lilyan Geffner of Flushing, Queens and Lake Peekskill, died September 12, 2006. She was 70 years old. Lilyan is survived by her beloved husband, Leonard, her loving children, Adrienne Star and Neal Geffner and by her devoted sister, Shirley Cohen. Gubik, Mary

Mary Gubik died Monday, August 28, 2006 at Cortlandt Healthcare. She was 81. Mary was the cherished mother of Michelle Whalen and Georgette Perry, the loving grandmother of Lisa, Lee and Denise and great-grandmother of Brandon, Amanda, Lindsey and Sarah. Mark Hartmann, a Lake Peekskill resident, died suddenly on Sunday morning at his home. He was 44 years old. Mark was the cherished husband of Janet Hartmann, the devoted son of Mary and the late John J. Hartmann, and the loving brother of John, Jr., Thomas and the late Peter Hartmann and Melissa Trindade. Juliano, Sam J.

Sam J. Juliano of Putnam Valley died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at his home. He was 83. Sam had worked as a driver for Teamsters Local 456, and had been an active member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department for 51 years. Sam was predeceased by his wife, Augusta in 1997. He is survived by his beloved children, Pat Dooley and her husband Tom, Peter Juliano and his wife Phyllis of Putnam Valley, Gerard Juliano (Teresa) and his wife Teresa of Cortlandt Manor, and Sam Juliano and his wife Lisa of Putnam Valley. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren ToniAnn Hutchison, Nicole Juliano, Justin Juliano, Felicia Juliano, Melina Juliano and Nicholas Juliano of Putnam Valley and by Gerard Juliano. Jr., and Justin Juliano of Cortlandt Manor. His sister, Clara Simuro of CA and his many loving nieces and nephews also survive. Kennedy, Paul T

Paul T. Kennedy, was a longtime resident of Continental Village, Garrison, New York, passed away on Jan. 18, 2006, after a long illness. Born in Yonkers, New York on Oct. 2, 1940 to James and Irene (Taylor) Kennedy. Paul worked for the City of Yonkers for 35 years as a Firefighter for 15 years and an Arson Investigator for 20 years.
Paul served in the US Navy aboard the US Beatty. He was a Little League coach for many years, President of the Home School Association for St. Columbanus School and an Usher for St. Columbanus Church in Cortlandt Manor, New York. Paul enjoyed playing golf and was loved by all who new him.
He is survived by his beloved wife Eileen (Kilduff), and loving daughters Keri and Colleen of the home address, a son Paul and Nicole (Vanca) and grandson Colin of Peekskill, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by three brothers, John, Robert and James.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Columbanus Church and interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Loconto, Ruth Brown

Ruth Brown Loconto, a resident of Cortlandt for 68 years died May 11, 2006. She worked as an LPN at Westledge Nursing Home when it first opened. She married Merritt William Brown in 1938; he predeceased her in 1986. She married Samuel Loconto in 1986.
Ruth was a member and past president of the Cortlandt and Croton Senior Citizens for 25 years. She loved to crochet. She is survived by her husband and by her son, Merritt Charles Brown, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her best friend and daughter-in-law Carol and her sister Elizabeth. Her brother Charles Mock died earlier.
Funeral Services are on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery and under the direction of HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley.


McCrudden, John D.

John D. McCrudden, Sr., of Lake Peekskill, NY, died September 14, 2006 at the age of 68.
He was born on October 7, 1937 in Yonkers. He was predeceased by his parents James and Catherine McCrudden and brother Joseph. John was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, NY. He enlisted in the army after graduation from High School. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 21 for 45 years. On April 11, 1964 he married Carol Kerr of Yonkers. He is survived by his wife Carol, his children, John Jr. (Jack) and his wife Eileen, Brian and his wife Diane, Kevin and his wife Gina and Catherine (Katy) and her husband Ettore Panzanaro and grandchildren, Justin, Meaghan, Brendan, Josh, Jake, Erin, Luke, Juliet, Kelsey, Kevin, Jenna, Ettore, Catherine and Nicholas, his sister Alice Dunn and brothers James and Larry. John was a devoted husband, loving father and friend to all. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. O'Hanlon, Frances V.

Frances V O'Hanlon of Putnam Valley, NY died peacefully on March 18, 2006. She was born in New York City on June 3, 1943 to John McCarthy and Ann Everston McCarthy. Her mother died when Fran was just six and she was raised by her maternal uncle, John Everston and his wife Virginia in the Parkchester section of the Bronx where she attended St. Raymond's School.
Fran graduated from St. Barnabas High School and worked several years for New York Life Insurance Company, and for the Ruberoid Division of GAF Corp. in Manhattan. For one special school year (1969-1970) she worked as a teacher's aide at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School on Shrub Oak.
In 1964 she and John P. (Jack) O'Hanlon were married in St. Raymond's Church in the Bronx. In 1968 they moved to Putnam Valley and have lived in the same home ever since. From 1972 until her recent hospitalization, Fran has been the indispensable secretary/office manager in the law office of her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home address, her son Kevin M. O'Hanlon, his wife Alison and their son Jake, of Mahopac, and her son Sean P. O'Hanlon of the home address. She also leaves her devoted sister Ann Kveglis and her husband, Albert of Pinebrook, NJ, her loving mother-in-law, Winifred O'Hanlon-Foy, her maternal aunt Frances Capo and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
She will be remembered for her love of her family and for her faith, strength and courage throughout many serious medical challenges.

Pawera, John

John Pawera, a resident of Putnam Valley, died Wednesday at his home. John is survived by his loving sons Mark and his wife Mary Ellen of Putnam Valley, and Steven of California. John was the cherished grandfather of Gregory and Sophia. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Renate. John was a retired accountant who loved gardening and reading. He will be deeply missed. Thomas Carl Peterson, born January 1, 1959, died suddenly on Thursday, September 28, 2006 from complications from diabetes. Tom is survived by his cherished son Sean, his loving parents Nancy Winsor and Harold Peterson, his brother Steve Peterson, his sisters Deb Mastro and Suzanne Peterson and by his cherished girlfriend of many years, Cindy Weinstein. Joseph F. Riordan of Lake Peekskill, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006. He was 81. A retired mounted policeman with the N.Y.P.D., Joseph was the beloved husband of Evelyn Riordan and the cherished father of Tara, Terrence and Linda Riordan, Patricia O'Brien, Maura Szigethy, Kathleen Meehan, and Erin Hanley and the loving grandfather of 11. Schwarz, Jerome P.

Jerome P. Schwarz of Putnam Valley, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at his home. He was 78. Jerome is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis and by many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Alfred Schwarz and Robert Webel. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the North American Martyrs and entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.


Vittorio, Josephine

Josephine Vittorio died Friday, July 14 at St. Francis Hospital. She was 50. Josephine was the beloved mother of Patricia and Christopher Vittorio (To our loving mother: May you rest in peace. We love you!). Josephine was the cherished daughter of Maria Valenza, and the loving sister of Giannina Davila, Virna Paulino, Paola DePole, Lori Turkovics and Rosalba Gerino. Josephine is also survived by her partner, George Patino. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Funeral Services will be on Monday at 1- a.m. at the Funeral Home and interment willl follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
