Gerard V Wendle, Jr
Died: Jan 7, 2021
Gerard V. Wendle, Jr. age 80, passed on to join his predeceased father Gerard Sr., mother Helen, sister Stephanie, and brother Stephen. Born in Hastings-on-Hudson, Jerry attended St. Matthew's School through 8th grade and then went on to Hastings High School. As a teenager always interested in audio visual, he worked with the Hastings Recreation Department by showing outdoor movies at Reynolds Field.

He joined the United States Air Force at age 17 and served for 4 years. While stationed in Korea, Jerry became a disc jockey for the Air Force station and broadcasted under the name of "Jerry Young". After being discharged, he attended broadcasting school and got his first job as a disc jockey at WSKI in Montpelier, Vermont. He was promoted to station manager before leaving and working at various other radio stations. Eventually, he took a job at Career Academy teaching students the ins and outs of broadcasting. He ultimately found his calling working for WNBC television where he worked for over 30 years as a sound technician. He traveled often and had many interesting assignments, including Democratic and Republican Presidential Nominating Conventions, hurricanes, and other newsworthy events. Perhaps the most noteworthy, Jerry was about a hundred feet from the historic meeting on Governors Island in 1988 between President Reagan and General Secretary Gorbachev.

He retired to spend his twilight years on "Mt. Jerry", his home, in Lake Peekskill with his life partner of over 25 years, Gloria Ouellette. During retirement he enjoyed hosting picnics at Mt. Jerry, making his way through his large DVD collection, and spending time with friends, family, and his beloved dogs, Daisy and the late Scooter. He is survived by Gloria of Lake Peekskill, his two daughters Wendy Palmer and Lori Kennedy both of Denver, son-in-law Rusty Palmer, Gloria's daughter Tina Bermudez, grandchildren Amy, Nate, Oakman, Margaret and Victoria, Gloria's granddaughter Jessica, his brother Tom Wendle of Tarrytown, and nieces Katie and Lily.

Jerry, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and Friend, you will be missed. Rest in peace.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, January 11th from 4-8 PM at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 AM at Mount Hope Cemetery, Jackson Ave, Hastings.
