William H. “Bill”Simunek, age 87, departed this life on March 11, 2017. He was born and grew up in the Bronx, NY raised his family in Cortlandt Manor, NY and spent most of his retirement in Marathon in the Florida Keys.
Bill was born to the late William and Bertha Simunek (nee Komarek) on January 24, 1930 and attended Evander Childs H.S. He was an avid athlete, excelling at many sports, especially football, basketball and baseball, the latter of which he played in the minor leagues. Later in life he developed a passion for tennis, both as a player and informal coach to many. Bill was employed for many years as a sheet-metal worker, and enjoyed the simple things in life (family, friends, laughter). He was an active parishioner of St. Columbanus and San Pablo Catholic churches.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald and is survived by his dear wife of almost 65 years, Theresa Simunek (nee Dubrowski), whom he married at St. Valentine’s R.C. Church on Nov. 22, 1952. He is also survived by his devoted children; John Simunek, Virginia Fortier (Timothy), William Simunek, Michael Simunek (Nancy) and Loraine Simunek (Jo Ann Binkert).He is the cherished grandfather of Daniel Simunek, Darien and Eric Fortier, and Chelsea (and great-grandson, Joey) Simunek.
