William H Simunek

William H. “Bill”Simunek, age 87, departed this life on March 11, 2017. He was born and grew up in the Bronx, NY raised his family in Cortlandt Manor, NY and spent most of his retirement in Marathon in the Florida Keys.
Bill was born to the late William and Bertha Simunek (nee Komarek) on January 24, 1930 and attended Evander Childs H.S.  He was an avid athlete, excelling at many sports, especially football, basketball and baseball, the latter of which he played in the minor leagues.    Later in life he developed a passion for tennis, both as a player and informal coach to many.  Bill was employed for many years as a sheet-metal worker, and enjoyed the simple things in life (family, friends, laughter).  He was an active parishioner of St. Columbanus and San Pablo Catholic churches.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald and is survived by his dear wife of almost 65 years, Theresa Simunek (nee Dubrowski), whom he married at St. Valentine’s R.C. Church on Nov. 22, 1952. He is also survived by his devoted children; John Simunek, Virginia Fortier (Timothy), William Simunek, Michael Simunek (Nancy) and Loraine Simunek (Jo Ann Binkert).He is the cherished grandfather of Daniel Simunek, Darien and Eric Fortier, and Chelsea (and great-grandson, Joey) Simunek.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 17th from 4-8 PM at the Heritage Funeral Home, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM on Saturday, March 18th at the Church of the North American Martyrs, Oscawana Lake Road, Putnam Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Birthright or the charity of your choice.

So very sorry for your loss. Mr. Simunek was always a fun man and much loved by so many in Evergreen Knolls. God Bless him and all of you at the time of great loss. He will always be in my heart and will remain there forever. Love you all ... XO The redheaded neighbor girl who still can balance on her little feet still! LOL Love you Mr. Simunek!!!

Mrs. Simunek, Ginny, BIll, Mike, Loraine & John and family: Alex and I were so sorry to hear about your Dad. The loss of a parent and the grief will always be with you. I have found strength in my family and the knowledge how fortunate we were to have them in our lives at all. God bless you all.
