Cordelia Greer

Cordelia "Candy" Campbell Greer, beloved teacher, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, died on October 5, 2019 in West Henrietta, NY after a long illness.

She was born on January 13, 1932 in Chattanooga, TN and was a resident of Peekskill, NY for past 40 years.

She is survived by sister Diane Lawrence of Chattanooga, TN, daughter Greta Greer-Kalmer of Cortlandt Manor, NY and son LeRoy S. Greer, III of West Henrietta, NY., devoted and loving in-laws Amy Greer and Robb Kalmer, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Leroy S. Greer of Chattanooga, TN. 

Cordelia was a graduate of Alabama A&M, Columbia University and Hunter College. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority and was a defense of her dissertation short of her doctoral degree.  She taught English and French in Port Chester Junior High School from early 1960's through late 1970's and then taught English at Lakeland Senior High School in Shrub Oak, NY throughout the 1980's from where she retired.

She was an active member of Annsville Baptist Church.  A coloratura soprano, she appeared on the "Ted Mack" amateur hour television program.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 9-11 AM and there will be a funeral service at the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery,1033 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, New York 10567.
