Philip Forsberg
Died: Jan 20, 2022

Philip Frederick Forsberg, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the age of 91.

Originally from Woodside (Queens) New York, Phil, also known as “Flip” throughout his working career, was a long term resident of Putnam Valley, NY, building his home in 1965 and raising his family there. He served in the Korean War, earning 2 Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on April 22, 1953. Prior to going to Korea Phil earned a degree at the Academy of Aeronautics in 1951, and worked several jobs before he began a 34-year career with General Electric as Head of Aircraft Maintenance at Westchester County Airport, retiring in 1990. His commitment and dedication to his long career are noteworthy and show the merit with which he was regarded.

Phil loved to travel and explore our beautiful country. As a family we took many trips pulling a travel trailer across the United States, thereby instilling his love of camping in his children.  After retirement, he and his wife Helen continued their travel adventures to such beautiful destinations as Alaska, our national parks, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and all over the U.S. They spent winters in the Florida Keys and made lifelong friends there.  His favorite place to visit was his childhood summer home of York Beach, Maine, where lobster and fried clams were always part of his diet. Phil’s many hobbies included photography (building a darkroom in the basement), HAMM radio, building computers, and woodworking, building all the furniture in their home. In his later years he taught computer classes to the seniors at the Senior Center. He had a passion for anything planes, trains, and automobiles, which is evident by all the pictures, models, and books that grace his home office.  Of all his hobbies and passions, though, his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were what he loved the most and gave him the most joy.

Philip is survived by Helen, his beloved wife and love of his life for 68 years, his son Scott and his wife Karen, daughters Susan and husband Bill, Lori and husband Steven, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Forsberg, of York Harbor, Maine.

Phil is predeceased by his mother and father, Philip and Ethel Forsberg of York Beach, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the VA hospital.
